Naturopathy
A Naturopathic Doctor is a healthcare practitioner of natural, alternative and integrative medicines.
Healing is promoted by addressing the following:
- Treating the underlying cause in addition to the symptoms
- Using safe and non-toxic natural medicines
- Utilizing a preventative approach
- Utilizing evidence-based treatments
Health and disease result from a complex of physical, mental, emotional, genetic, environmental, social and other factors. Naturopathic medicine recognizes the harmonious functioning of all aspects of the individual as being essential to health. The multifactorial nature of health and disease requires a personalized and comprehensive approach to diagnosis and treatment. Naturopathic physicians treat the whole person taking all of these factors into account.
Your First Visit
The first visit to a Naturopathic Doctor may take an hour or longer as it includes a comprehensive medical history, physical examination, and possible laboratory tests. Furthermore, your ND will discuss nutrition, lifestyle, emotions, exercise, stress and other significant health factors. Your Naturopathic physician will discuss treatment options, costs, and develop an individualized course of therapy that is focused on addressing your health concerns.
At this time, the cost of treatment visits to naturopathic doctors is not covered by OHIP. However, most individuals who have extended health coverage for services such as therapeutic massage and chiropractic care also have excellent naturopathic health care coverage. Contact your health insurer to find out what services are covered by your plan.
